Tyra Banks is a famous former supermodel who many people probably most know her by. She has expanded into a brand as a former supermodel, actress, tv host, advocate for female empowerment, and CEO of her own beauty line. I recently saw an interview she did with Popsugar in a segment that they do called "Pretty Unfiltered" where she talks about how girls and boys should embrace their flaws and be proud of their quirks and what makes them stand out from the crowd. She wants them to turn their flaws into assets. I have found that she has been such in inspiring role model to not only girls and women, but also boys who might think they are different and insecure. She knows what it's like to be different from the rest because she has always said that she knows that she's always had a big forehead which she calls a fivehead but her mom helped her embrace her flaw and go for her dream jobs. I have always admired her confidence and how she always says what is on her mind without sounding critical. She knows honesty and criticism can hurt but sometimes it is for the best for that person so don't take everything to heart. She makes people think about how they feel and change the type of negative thinking that makes people stop from achieving their goals. She has goals and passions apart from modeling and with a lot of hard work and a support system by her side, she was able to build a brand for herself.

I recently read about the long rivalry between Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell and was interested in Tyra's side. Naomi was the veteran and the media pitted Tyra against her as the newcomer bent on taking Naomi's spot in the modelling world. I think this says a lot about the times that people believed there was not enough room for two African American supermodels. Naomi responded with typical Naomi fierceness, actually bullying Tyra who was extremely young and new to the business. Tyra invited Naomi onto her show and confronted her about the way she had treated her decades earlier. On camera, Naomi denied her accusations, but off-camera that day, she apologized to Tyra. I wish they had both used the opportunity to discuss the racism in the modeling industry and seen each other as allies instead enemies. The real enemy is a society that limits the career opportunities of women of color and promotes tokenism. www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/10/tyra-banks-naomi-campbell-feud
