Tonight,

during the American Music Awards, singer and actress Selena Gomez addressed the audience about her mental health very candidly. She mentioned how she had everything, but had been "broken" on the inside. She brought this up because she had recently come out of rehab where she was being treated for depression and anxiety. These may be side effects of Lupus, which she announced she had in 2015.

Her speech caught my eye because of instead of doing the usual thank you speech filled with tears, Selena used the prime televsion spot of the American Music Awards to address millions watching about mental health and encouraged people to get help. More and more, celebrities are coming out about their mental health and the treatment they receive. I think this is a very important message to the public about mental health and the need to take care of it as you would any physical disease or illness.

Selena Gomez has the most followers on instagram in the entire world., Her fans are loyal and fiercely back her. I think she has done an excellent job influencing millions and opening up about her treatment as well as teaching many what lupus even is. Its often a very forgotten autoimmune disease. She may have saved lives tonight with her speech and her encouragement to seek help and treatment "if you feel broken".

Hi Monica, I think you chose a great topic to write about, especially as Selena Gomez has inspired millions of young girls out there on mental illnesses and self esteem issues. Her comeback to the AMA's was amazing to see, and it was also great to see the overwhelming support she received. I can't imagine how difficult her life would be, constantly under media scrutiny and public eye. In my opinion, yes, she did grow up in the show business, but her music and film work shouldn't define who she is on the inside. A lot of people have mentioned how her music has gotten more provocative and sexualized after she dated Justin Bieber, yet we never mention how artists such as Nicki Minaj have rose up to popularity from this type of music.

Hi I also e.enjoyed hearing her speech. I think it was so courages of her to do so. She has such a kind heart, and I'm happy that the superficial Hollywood life did not consumed her. I. Wen her fan ever since she was in that wizards children's tv show in Disney. I think mental illness and sucking help is very important as well. She has done so much to influence people in a big way wether it is being kind to one another or being kind to our selfs.

I'm not one to really like or be a fan of a celebrity... but I've recently randomly come across random interviews of Selena Gomez and was impressed, at least by what I heard and saw from her. I heard a lot about her speech at the AMA's, though I didn't watch or hear it myself. I think it's great what she's doing as well. Mental health is something that shouldn't be played off, and is something that needs special attention, just like any other disease. I think it's very respectable what she does, and the effort she puts into bringing more awareness to that. It's nice to see someone with the potential of so much power and attention to do what she does, for a change. I think there are many celebrities and famous people who have the power and influence to do so much, but often they are busy living their lives. I really like the way Selena Gomez carries herself, and I'm definitely becoming more and more of a fan.
