Okay so this is a topic I have been thinking about for several years now and I think I've finally gotten to a point of anger that I can say something about it. Does anyone else find the lack of LGBT characters TV disgusting? I mean sure we have shows like The L Word and Queer as Folk but those were shows in the early 2000's and they were also over sexualized. Television is extremely heteronormalized and I feel like there is not one show that actually portrays LGBT characters properly without either killing them off or over sexualizing them. I was watching a new show that has begun on Netflix called "Easy" and it's about 7 episodes, each episode telling a different story about a different couple and how they live life. On episode two they actually featured a lesbian couple and not in an over sexualized way- in a normal and frankly in my own experience a way that I could completely relate to. It made me SO happy to finally see and experience that on TV and have something to connect with, however it was just one episode and that was it. I think big television companies would be making a lot more money if they started featuring consistent characters such as these on a regular basis. I also realized now that there is a show that does somewhat feature LGBT characters, The Fosters, and I actually really appreciate the show for how it goes about taking about subjects. It briefly touches subjects that most people are unaware of such as what it means to be transgender and it allows for viewers and families at home to have a discussion about it. I applaud ABC Family for doing so and I wish they would start making more shows like this.

Wow, since I don't really watch television, I had no idea that LGBT folks are being repesented improperly. The only thing I noticed is that in older films (not sure about today's films) are that lesbian couples always end up dying or being killed. I thought it was quite strange and always wondered why. Anyway, since you talked about ABC, I rarely watch Modern Family, but I remember that there's a gay couple and I thought they were really cute. I would say that they are fairly representing the gay community in a positive light.
