I just saw a really good movie last night called "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?", and I thought it would be somewhat relevant to discuss it here. In the movie there is the mother of Gilbert who is laughed at for being fat and the brother who has some sort of mental illness. Both characters are looked down upon by outsiders due to their conditions. I found it heartwarming that Gilbert himself did the best he could to make these characters as happy as could be while trying to maintain a functioning life and household. Both the mother and brother of Gilbert are sincerely grateful of how Gilbert takes care of them, and the taunting becomes background noise to the tune of core family values.
