So this video has popped up a lot in my facebook feed this week, probably because I have many girlfriends that works in the industry. So today I actually took time and watched the whole thing and its a very important video (at least for people in LA and in the industry). I already knew that Hollywood is one of the most unequal places to work in when it comes to gender, but that only 4% of all movies in the last 13 years had female directors is shocking.
This video captured so many aspects of this problem, some of them mentioned that its structural. We are conditioned to think of directors as male and it's crazy if a female would be nominated for an oscars for directing. One actress compared it to race and skin color, how caucasians for a long time, an actually still is seen as the norm. There is never a question if the director is a male and most of the time everyone expects him as well as the lead actors to be white.
