I recently watched a video on YouTube about Apple making their products become intentionally obsolete in a year, so people can deliberately buy their new products. The main debate was the Iphone and its battery life because it only has a lifespan of 1-2 years, and the only way to replace the battery is to take it to an apple store. The cost of replacing a new battery at an Apple store is said to be almost the same cost as buying a new Iphone. A person has only the choice to pay for a replacement or a new phone, because apple has made their own signature screws in their Iphones so people can not fix it on their own. Also new updates for the Iphones IOS software will make it run slower because they are meant for the newer Iphones and this will also force a person into buying a new Iphone.
Apple is exploiting people for their hard earned cash, and if you do decide on buying a new Iphone there is only a little difference between the newer versions of phones. I really cant tell the difference between an Iphone 5 and Iphone 5s. Apple will add a new feature like a better quality camera when they could have put that on their older phones from the beginning. Some people are so stuck on having to buy the new Iphone that they don't realize they are buying almost exactly the same phone.
If Apple wasn't so stuck on thinking of little features they can add to their products to earn money maybe they could focus on inventing a new technological breakthrough. I believe they could come up with something really amazing if their main focus wasn't just to come up with a phone with newer colors to chose from.

These are all unsubstantiated claims that remind me of people saying the White House purposefully flew plains into the twin towers. Anyone who knows anything about computers knows that for Apple to get away with this would practically impossible because they would be exposed by the computer community pretty quickly. What you're talking about is not just collusion on a massive scale, but humans keeping a secret on a massive scale--completely against human nature. Furthermore, as far as the updates are concerned, just because you don't understand why Apple forces you to update both your hardware and your software doesn't mean that its not important. For example, Apple just came out with a brand new computer language called Swift. That means that for all of us iOS mobile developers that make apps for iPhones, we all have to learn a completely knew language. Despite this increased amount of work for us, the performance benefit will be well worth the effort. At the end of the day, people need to remember that technology is all about moving forward and progressing. If you want to stop updating your software and buying new phones, then stop using technology, because that's the point of technology--to constantly evolve into the next best thing.

You have brought up and interesting point about how dependent apple users are forced to become. It quite clever the way this company has set out to market their items and further have their consumers hooked on their goods. It seems they have really studied the supply and demand concepts and have placed into practice. I think the advancement in technology apple brings to the table is great, but it also like any product has its drawbacks.

I know this post is a few years old but the iPhone 7 just came out and the only thing they changed was the camera and took off the ear phone jack. The camera was supposed to be better but I saw a video of a guy that got the phone early and he was explaining how there is no real difference with the camera. Apple is being money smart but people will end up broke.

I certainly agree with you. I am an Android user for almost 7 years and androids have different features for different name android brands. Whereas, the iPhone; I feel like every apple product looks the same. Eventually someone can just update their software and automatically have the same feature as from an iPod to an iPad and iPhone. I have owned my iPod for four years now and like you mentioned; after every update it DOES slow down. I don’t get bullied into buying a new iPod. I think its beneficial to own an iPod as I can also Facetime, use messenger and surf through my social media with every apple product. I sometimes do think about buying an iPhone but I then to myself, “Why buy one? If I already know it’s going to have the same features as my iPad and iPod. Why over spend on something that doesn’t have to cost much?”

I think that many companies do this to their products. Ultimately the goal of the company is to increase revenue and an easy was of doing that is producing complementary products that are necessary to buy with other products. I completely agree that newer software slows down older models. It is almost necessary to buy a new phone in order to have the new operating systems.
