Snapchat has just unveiled its new Chat 2.0 update, and it seems to be bringing a ton of cool new features to the ephemeral messaging app. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the app, Snapchat is a fun messaging app. You can take a photo or a video with it, then add a caption or doodle or lens graphic over top, and send it to a friend. Alternatively, you can add it to your story, a 24-hour collection of your photos and videos, which you broadcast to the world or just your followers.
Most snapchaters are used to the usual bug fixes and updates, however SnapChat 2.0 includes video and voice calling, as well as the ability to send goofy stickers to your Snap family. In order for the 2.0 update to work well it requires you and your friends to install the update for the new features to work. What we love most about the new Chat is how easily you can transition between all these ways of communicating just like we do in person. When that’s possible, you aren’t texting, calling, or video chatting… you’re just talking.
It seems like SnapChat has been working on this redesign for a while. Snapchat has a great impact on how some people communicate. I think the designers of SnapChat wants to find the best way to communicate and be the best way to communicate.
The app also has introduced Auto-Advance Stories, the fastest way to catch up with your friends. When you finish a Story, the next one begins automatically simply swipe to skip ahead, or pull down to exit. Lastly Snap chat has refreshed their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, making some things clearer, and building foundations for awesome new products to come. Check out our new Privacy Center for more on that. You can now tap on the picture icon inside your friend chat and send as many of them at once as you’d like. If you send a photo during a video call, they will show up as a translucent overlay on the chat window.

As an avid Snapchat user, I was surprised to find out from you that video chatting will be included in the Snapchat 2.0 update. What once started out as a simple selfie app has developed into a master hybrid of social media sites such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook by incorporating features such as “followers” (used for verified users), direct messaging, story sharing, and detailed records of user activity (including scores, snap streaks, and rankings among friends) that keep Snappers coming back on a consistent basis.

Recently, the app has focused its attention on its growing and continuously changing library of filters, geotags, and facial scanning features. Even advertisers now team with Snapchat to create interactive ads promoting film releases, national events, public service announcements, etc. The app is quickly climbing the social media charts as it adopts popular features of other social media programs, in addition to expanding and enhancing its own unique features.

I have never used Snapchat because it makes me tired sometimes. Of corse, I like to talk and send with friends and I always talk with friends and share pictures and videos. However, I think the Snapchat can be shared with everyone include strangers. I do not like some application that can share pictures and videos with anyone such as Facebook and Instagram. However, it can be good with people who is not like me. Thank you for your opinion of Snapchat Khadijah!

I think that this update is going overboard, just like other apps. I find that as soon as a great app comes out they always have to make an update that kind of removes their main idea to something towards anything that already exists. And all the sudden the most apps looks the same in a way. But that is just my opinion :). And the automatic thing you were talking about, what do you feel about it? for me I feel like that brought down the hole Snapchat. That was a big thumb down for me. The only update I love that snapchat came out with was that you couldn't see others "best friends" anymore. :) Great post btw!

My guess is that SnapChat will continue its effort to expand its user base with more of these kinds of updates that veer further from its original design/purpose. Like FaceBook, once (or if) it gets mom and dad and the whole family on board, it will peak, younger users will go away, and growth will slow. Actually - even though this is a mobile world - I think the platform will eventually die because it does not have a desktop application. It reminds me of MySpace 10 years ago.
