The Guardian, an online news site reported on a new UK bill that would help to clean up the country’s image when it comes to housing corrupt criminals in their country. The new law would freeze the UK assets of any individual that is guilty of human rights violations. The law is aimed at cleaning up London’s reputation as a haven for “dirty money”. “It’s existing provisions target corrupt politicians and international criminals who launder money through the capital’s banks and plough stolen cash into high-end real estate”, writes Harding. This is a good move by the UK government. Allowing dirty money to be transacted in their country basically makes them accomplices to the crimes. In addition, allowing criminals that have committed human rights violations to live among UK citizens puts them at risk for potential harm. The world’s most dangerous criminals shouldn’t have a place to feel at home when thousands of refugees are homeless and scared living in tents along country borders.
