Luke Walton's name has been all around the NBA lately as he has made himself into one of the top coaching candidates for many of the open NBA heading coaching jobs. His name only became popular in the coaching realm after he lead Golden State to a 39-4 record in the absence of head coach Steve Kerr. Luke Walton wasn't the greatest NBA player when he played for various teams as he was a better college player than a pro. This hiring is very interesting as he has never been a head coach as he was only an assistant in Golden State.

There are many thing that can go wrong with this hiring as Luke Walton will be inheriting the second worst team in the NBA last year as the start he had with Golden State was a team that was coming off an NBA championship. The Warriors had a superstar and a bunch of other proven players on the team. With the Lakers they have lost their superstar with Kobe's retirement. I believe that the Lakers will still be not very good next year.

With Luke Walton's hiring this does not solve any of the questions they have surrounding them as Luke Walton isn't a proven NBA coach as his experience is very limited. The Lakers have an okay lineup as they will have to have a monster offseason in order to become contenders right away. A coach can change that as well as what the Lakers do in the upcoming draft with the pick that they have. As of now the Lakers don't look that much better than they did last year.

I think it's great for the Lakers organization to get rid of Byron Scott and accept Luke Walton as they leader of the franchise team that he once played for. Despite having a promising future the best team in the NBA, no one could resist taking an offer of a head coaching position especially for a few millions. And having it set in sunny Los Angeles puts the cherry on top.

I personally think that this was a great hire for the lakers. Luke Walton coached the Warriors for almost half the season due to head coach Steve Kerr recovering from surgery. And in his time coaching them they only lost about 3 games which is amazing. Luke Walton also use to play for the Lakers so he knows how much pressure comes with the job
