I am once again posting something related to the theme of horror and fear. I grew in a Christian household, so I have to admit, watching the video kind of scared me. However, because I learned to reason and question things. I realized that Anneliese could have had a mental illness and other psychology related issues. To be honest though, I'm not sure what to feel. One side is pushing me towards the realm of spirituality and the other side of me is pushing towards science. Spirituality tells me that demon possession actually happens. On the other hand, science tells me to reason that there are valid reasons for everything. Also, there is not enough evidence to really conclude anything. All I can conclude is that it must have really sucked for Anneliese and her family.

After watching this video, I think I understand the media better. It is almost a reflection of our fears. When tapping into what makes us afraid, they will use that to pique our interests for the better or worse. News about terrorists attack and racism provokes fear. So, of course people are going to be interested in what makes them afraid. How can you not click on something that is scary and be concerned about especially when it has a lot to do with our own interests. we are also morbidly curious. So, they always make a big deal out of something that's not such a big deal in the scope of everything.

The media manipulated how we think and we don't even know about. But that doesn't mean we should avoid the media, it means we need to embrace it and get to the bottom of what they are trying to do and then do something about it if it really matters. Long time ago, the church got people to attend church by talking about people's damnation and used fear. Today, we have gotten smart because of the field of psychology. There are a lot of times when people are able to differentiate between mental illness and demon possession. So, instead of fear, I feel that church uses love and acceptance now a days. As with collective fear in our nation, I think the number one fear would be terrorist attack or some kind of human made catastrophe. Why do I speculate this? A lot of our movies tend to portray some kind of chaos from human-made things or terrorist attacks. For example, the zombie apocalypse. It can't be a coincidence that zombie themed movies started popping up after 9/11. Another example is the reoccurrence of the usage of nuclear weapons. Anyway, I hope the video clip is not too scary. If you decide to watch it, it's not too bad.

Hi Joseph,
I do believe in the presence of a spiritual world. Hence, I don't always watch scary movies with themes like exorcism and possession. I highly believe that is possible aside from what explanations science gives us. But I often remind myself that these are movies. They are most likely fictional and tailored for audiences' attentions. With that in mind, it puts the fears away from me. And it is true that with the power of media, things have been changed. But I feel that most of the changes are done by technology which grants access to research. This allows us to put a stop on believing based on fears. Instead, we have the tools and time to find more information if a matter is significant enough.
