MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It normally a game where people play together in a virtual world. These virtual worlds normally have their own story and have player become key components help shape or fight for said world. It was made extremely popular by a few big titles in the past like WoW and Everquest but has been on a slow decline ever since.

I remember when I was younger the idea of playing MMORPGS were extremely magical. Everything I did was so fun for me and it honestly felt like I was in another world. I miss the day when a game can feel like that and I find myself always trying to find that MMORPG that can make me feel that way again. Every year I'm always disappointed and it feels like the genre itself is just dying. Either the game tries to copy WoW or it brings nothing new to the table.

I wonder if this genre was always this stale and maybe my standard when I was a kid was a lot lower? Maybe it was because making video games has become such an efficient business that games are no longer about creating that magical world but about creating a formula that get people to spend the most amount of money. Either way every year I find myself hopeful. Hopeful that maybe next year it will be different. Maybe next year a company is willing to take a risk to create a world that everybody has been waiting for.

I think this may be true about MMORPGs and it is because we simply are having more and more options every year. Back in the days, we only have two types of games; console and computer (internet) games. Then, from internet gaming, it developed MMORPGs which lots of players get to interact, complete missions, challenge new bosses and dungeons, with people around the world. Now, different genres came out such as MOBA and mobile gaming. Mobile gaming has been revolutionary because of the convenience provided to the players. They basically can get to the access of their profile and play for literally 5 mins during the break. Most of all, mobile gaming is highly effective because people can choose to pay and gamble for some equipment/ character of a type of rarity. But one of the main reason I think is that people simply don't have the time and patience to sit and grind for a long time and they rather choose short competitive games such as LoL, SMITE, DOTA 2, HOTS, etc.
