With today being Easter, the jokes about this holiday have been all over Facebook. A lot of "Zombie Jesus"/Easter jokes have gone viral.
I, myself, find a lot of it to be hysterical. I know how to take a joke. But, I do realize that some of those that are very religious or do put emphasis on the holiday are upset. I did repost a "Happy Zombie Jesus Day" picture that a friend posted. In turn, I received a message from another friend, blacklisting me for the repost. Am I in the wrong? What is funny to one is not funny to another. And, for me-- I accept that. We all have our own beliefs and lifestyles etc. It takes so much to truly offend me. I have made it a point to try to find humor in everything... Even in the darkest of times, a laugh or smile can be found that helps alleviate things.
But, how far is too far? Has anyone else had experience in sharing a joke, especially about a religious holiday, that got out of hand and caused an unexpected response?
And where is the double standard?! This weekend, Easter weekend, is also one of the biggest Gay Parties in the world-- it is White Party in Palm Springs. Now, the real humor sets in for me, when this friend that gave me the harsh critique of having posted the joke, claims to be so "good" and in tune with his religious beliefs... that he is attending White Party as I type this... Indulging in so much that "goes against" these so-called religious beliefs...?! *confusion*

If only all religions were as tolerant as say Buddhist or even the Sikhs, or that there were no religion at all, like Lennon's song. As far as I know only 2 religions go completely apeshit when you speak about their beliefs and its funny how they believe they need to defend their god as if a "god" or prophet or what have you would need a "mortal" to defend it.

Nevertheless, it is always taboo or unacceptable to make light of those "major" religions, even though here in the States there really shouldn't be protection for one certain group, but there is. What's even more ironic is that certain religious people (wont generalize by saying ALL of them) feel they are ENTITLED to mock anything that doesnt fit with their beliefs! Talk about fair huh? lol

I agree. The lack of fairness in how certain religions try to manipulate and rule over others is pretty bad at times. It often seems that those that are very very religious are beyond critical of others, with little room for actual change or growth within themselves. It is often sad to me, how limiting this can be for some people.
If you do not agree with their beliefs and standards, some will go out of their way to make things difficult for you. They can bash individuals, other religions, etc. But, as soon as any one does the same to them, it is war.
So much for everyone being treated equally and fairly!
